For decades our congregation has engaged in dialogues on racial reconciliation as we learn what it means to create an inter-racial family of faith. After the murder of George Floyd, our church was asked to open those dialogues to the Bethany Memorial Church in West Virginia who have partnered with us in many ways. Now these dialogues are open to all in our Pennsylvania and West Virginia regions. At times we have worked through a book together. At other times we invite someone to make a presentation, such as a police officer, an African American youth in a predominantly white school or a lawyer for juvenile offenders. Please see our Coming Events for the next Faithful Conversation which are held on zoom.New Paragraph
For over 30 years, the congregation has worked to become an inter-racial community of faith with the assistance of a Racial Reconciliation Team and congregational dialogues called Faithful Conversations. As the journey continues, they lead workshops in Anti-Racism and Pro-Reconciliation for ministers and laity.
Born out of the loss of too many young people to gun violence, the Wilkinsburg Sanctuary Project for Peace is a grassroots initiative to end gun violence, provide enrichment for our youth as we raise up
Wilkinsburg as a wonderful community in which to live, work, go to school and worship. Several leading congregations work alongside nonprofits to provide outreach to our youth and to be a presence of
peace on our streets. Annually we provide an Interfaith Prayer Vigil on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, a youth Art and Talent Show for Peace and a weeklong service and education camp called Project Peace.
Our church is honored to lead this effort so for more information contact Pastor Janet below.
Jesus has a manifesto for Peace - it is called The Beatitudes. Join us for this great video series as we learn the attitudes of peace-making.
